April Fools' Day 2024: Pranks Gone Wild! The BEST and WORST

April Fools' Day 2024

Are you wondering what to do for April Fools' Day 2024? Well, the internet can be a tricky place on April 1st since so many brands like to play pranks. But the truth is, most April Fools' jokes aren't really that funny and often just annoy people.

Here are a few options for your brand or business:

  • Don't do an April Fools' joke at all. Spend that time on something more helpful for your customers or business.

  • Actually follow through on your "joke" and make the product or feature real. That way you're not really pranking anyone.

  • Be super clear that it's a joke from the start so no one actually thinks it's real. But then is it even an April Fools' joke?

  • Lie to people and trick them, but that will probably just make them mad later. It's not worth the bad publicity for such a small "prank".

Here are some pros and cons of April Fools' Day

Pros:

  • It can be fun to play a silly joke on friends and get a good laugh. Some pranks between close pals are totally harmless.

  • Creative types probably enjoy the challenge of concocting a prank that really fools people. It takes some comedic genius to pull off the perfect joke.

  • April Fools' Day gives an excuse to act a little stupid and not take yourself too seriously for a change. Everyone needs a good chuckle sometimes.

Cons:

  • So many "jokes" are just dumb or fall flat though. Most of them are about as funny as dad jokes.

  • It's annoying trying to figure out what's real online. I don't have time to fact check every silly tweet or post.

  • Brands risk upsetting customers if they take it too far with misleading pranks instead of obvious jokes.

  • Not everyone thinks pranks are fun - some people find them immature or in poor taste.

  • Coming up with a genuinely hilarious prank that doesn't irritate anyone is actually pretty tough!

On the whole, I think April Fools' Day is hit or miss. Some jokes land well but most miss the mark. It'd be cool if brands focused on giving us something cool instead of silly pranks. But between friends, a good gag can still get a laugh!

Luckily in 2023, most companies skipped the jokes. It was actually pretty quiet online. Even Google, known for its Gmail pranks on April 1st, kept it real this year.

If you see any April Fools' jokes or stunts coming up in 2024 that are noteworthy, funny or just plain weird, send them my way! I'm curious to see how brands handle the most difficult day for internet jokes.

Man, April Fools' Day really bugs me sometimes! As someone who spends way too much time scrolling through social media, it's super annoying trying to figure out what's real and what's just a lame joke.

Half the time the "pranks" aren't even funny. They're usually really obvious or just plain dumb. And some companies take it too far by actually misleading people instead of it being so over-the-top that no one could believe it.

I totally get why most brands skipped the jokes last year. It's not worth the hassle and potential backlash if people feel tricked. Plus coming up with a genuinely good prank that doesn't annoy anyone takes some serious creativity.

Don't get me wrong, a well-done prank can be hilarious. But most of the time it just comes off as lazy or tone-deaf. I'd rather companies spent that time promoting something actually useful instead of wasting our time.

At the end of the day, I think April Fools' Day is one holiday we could probably do without. But I'll still keep my eye out next year just in case a joke really lands! Fingers crossed more brands realize their efforts are better spent elsewhere.

What do you think - love it or hate April Fools' Day? Let me know if you come across any pranks that are actually worth a chuckle in 2024!
